It seems that some of you are confused as to where Honduras is. Feel free to study this map and decrease your ignorance of world geography. I live a little southeast of the town of Copan on the western side of Honduras.

Climbing Santa Maria volcano

Last wednesday there was a full moon. I was still living in Xela, Guatemala taking Spanish classes and decided I needed to spice up my life with a full moon hike up a volcano. We rode from Quetzaltrekkers (the not for profit org organizing the hike) on the back of pick up trucks to the foot of the volcano around midnight. It rained the entire way up, all 5 grueling hours. At the top, at 5am, I snuggled into my sleeping bag and passed out on a rock for about 45 minutes. Woke up to watch the little Santiaguito volcano erupt beside us and then watched the sun rise. It was definitely worth the effort and the pain to get up there. The view was fantastic, like nothing ive ever seen before. We were above all the clouds and could see the mountain ranges, farms, and towns go on forever into the horizon. Around 12pm on Thursday, I was at the bottom of the volcano exhaustedly getting onto a chicken bus. I slept for 16 hours once I got home. My host family thought I was crazy.

Pics will be posted once I get to Honduras.
